A Japanese delegation of 11 men and 2 women recently completed a week-long tour of Papua New Guinea’s coffee centers and expressed satisfaction with the quality of the coffee they tasted.
Supported by MG Corporation, a key partner of the Coffee Industry Corporation (CIC) in PNG, the delegation included coffee entrepreneurs and tasters.
Their aim was to assess the quality of PNG’s coffee for possible import into Japan.
The group visited coffee producing regions such as Milne Bay, Morobe, Eastern Highlands and Jiwaka and found most of the samples impressive, except for one.
The tour included visits to CIC facilities and a factory owned by Kosem Coffee, known for its high-quality beans.
In addition, Japanese soil experts arrived to assess soil samples for optimal coffee cultivation.
